What are the correct sizes for images on social media posts?
The correct image size for your social media posts is crucial for making a great first impression.
Navigating the ever-changing landscape of social media image sizes can be a bit of a headache. To make sure your posts on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn always look their best, here's a guide to the recommended image sizes post images for 2025–2026. (This topic is specifically about single image posts, posts with multiple images will behave differently on Facebook and LinkedIn because the images will be put into a grid).
The key to Facebook is understanding the different formats. You have a little more flexibility here, with various options depending on the type of post you're creating.
- Landscape Post: 1200 x 630 pixels (Landscape 1.91:1 ratio). This is the go-to size for most link previews and landscape-oriented photos in the feed. However, with most users visiting Facebook a square or portrait post often works best…
- Square Post: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1 ratio). A simple and effective format that looks great on both desktop and mobile.
- Portrait Post 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio). This popular vertical format takes up more space in the mobile feed, which can help your content stand out. Note: If you post a portrait photo on a Facebook post, it will display it in its portrait format on mobile but will display it square on the desktop view by adding colour bars on the sides of the image.
Instagram's visual-first approach means getting the sizing right is even more crucial. The platform has a preference for vertical content.
- Square Post: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1 ratio). The classic Instagram look, and still a very reliable choice.
- Portrait Post: 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio). This format is excellent for maximising your presence in the feed, as it takes up more vertical space.
- Landscape Post: 1080 x 566 pixels (1.91:1 ratio). While not as popular as portrait, this works for wide-angle shots, but is generally not recommended because it doesn't work well on mobile.
LinkedIn is a professional network, and your images should reflect that. The platform is a little less varied than Facebook or Instagram, which makes it easier to manage.
- Landscape Post: 1200 x 627 pixels (1.91:1 ratio). This is the recommended size for shared images and articles, ensuring they look great on both desktop and mobile.
- Square Post: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1 ratio). This is another great option that works particularly well for carousels and documents.
- Portrait Post 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio). This popular vertical format takes up more space in the mobile feed, which can help your content stand out.
